NOWHERE NEAR IT’S ME

As part of Art Nou 2025, the RocioSantaCruz gallery presents, for the first time in its space, the work of artist Gadea Burgaz. Under the title Nowhere Near It’s Me, the presentation is structured as a diptych: the exhibition project Nowhere Near It’s Me and the performative activation Me Presento (I Introduce Myself). In both parts, the artist proposes a reflection on the construction of identity, memory, and personal transformation through visual language.

In the artist’s own words:

“It responds to two specific circumstances: the gallery space and the moment when the proposal was written. The pieces have been created following the initial intuitions from that early text, which began with the phrase ‘Ni de lejos soy yo’ or ‘Nowhere near it’s me’. The proposal’s text is based on the idea that my pieces are nowhere near a self-portrait. A small fragment of that text became both the subject and the driving force behind all the works in the exhibition.”

She adds:

“I keep framing things (situations, letters, or bodies). One could even say that I frame the gallery door itself. This door becomes a frame, like the structure of a canvas. I’m interested in the classical idea of painting on canvas. A body on a frame.”

The performative action Me Presento (I Introduce Myself) is also based on the text Nowhere Near It’s Me and explores the representation of the self.
