Artist: Blanca Casas Brullet
Title: Debe haber
Year: 2010
Technique: Pencil on printed paper
Size: 40 x 30 cm
The title Debe haber (‘income / expenses’) is built by two words that, separated, are presented at the top of two opposing columns in the accounting books. With this series, the artist tries to control the fortuitous event: the idea of working with the pencil originates from an accident, when the ink of the lines that structure the pages are diluted, losing the inherent perfection of a perfectly regulated space.
This series connects with other interventions on the lines of accounting notebooks, such as the fact of mending the pages or dissolving the lines in clouds that interrupt the grids fluctuating from page to page. Works all of them that arise in response to the economic crisis caused by subprime mortgages in 2008, dissolving drawings that Blanca Casas Brullet assimilates to terms such as precariousness, instability or lack of guarantees.
