Montserrat Soto

BIO

Montserrat Soto‘s work has been developed through photographs and installations in different series. She focuses on space, place and landscape, with emptiness as the predominant element.

Her exhibition activity dates back to 1989, but it was in 1990 when she held her first solo exhibition at the Centre d’Art Alexandre Cirici (Hospitalet, Barcelona).

Among her most recent exhibitions is “Dato Primitivo 5. Pinacoteca” at the Museum of Ciudad Real. Convento de la Merced (Ciudad Real, 2016) among other solo exhibitions such as those held at the Casa de Cultura de España, (Mexico City) in Koldo Mitxelena, (San Sebastián) or at Fundación Telefónica (Madrid). In 2005 she exhibited at the MNCARS and a year later at the Centre d’Art La Panera (Lleida).

Her work has been present in recent collective exhibitions such as “Tentativas críticas” (Critical Tents) held at CGAC (Santiago de Compostela), “El borde de una herida” (The Edge of a Wound) at Centro Centro (Madrid) and “Entre el mito y el espanto. El mediterráneo como conflicto” (Between Myth and Terror. The Mediterranean as a Conflict) at the IVAM (Valencia).

The quality of Montserrat Soto’s work means that her work is present in important collections such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), the MACBA (Barcelona), Centro Gallego de Arte Contemporaneo (Centre of Contemporary Art) CGAC (Santiago de Compostela) or the Fonds National d´Art Contemporain de Puteaux (France) among other important collections in the world.
