Oriol Vilapuig

BIO
Oriol Vilapuig (Sabadell, 1964)
He studied at the Escola d’Art EINA in Barcelona (1982-1985) and graduated in Fine Arts from the Sant Jordi Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona (1985-1990).
The artistic work of Oriol Vilapuig takes the form of essay as both procedure and methodology. The essay as a form of study and open inquiry, a continuous drift that overflows any imaginary, and also as a way of defining or questioning the limits of our experience. This experience is made visible, largely thanks to tradition, understood as that which precedes us. Hence the constant use in his works of the quotation and appropriation of other authors that also appear in the form of writing.
His work is inscribed in the will to create imaginaries around reiterated themes in our collective memory such as desire, loss, eroticism, the body, fear, language and time.
This repetitive work in the use of images is conditioned by a sort of poiesis, that is, a trigger that produces meaning and invites us to consider both the position of the author and the positions of those who approach them
