Paco Elvira

Paco Elvira (Barcelona, 1948 – Sitges, 2013)
He was one of the most important Catalan and Spanish photojournalists of the 1970s, in the last years of Franco’s regime and after the death of the dictator. He also covered international events of historical relevance: the conflicts in Northern Ireland (1973), the Carnation Revolution in Portugal (1974) and the Balkan War (1992).
He worked for La Vanguardia, El Periódico and the agencies Cover and AGE Fotostock. He was special envoy to more than a dozen countries.
Among the individual and collective exhibitions in which he has participated, the following stand out: Historia del fotoperiodismo en Cataluña (at the Palau de la Virreina, 1990); El compromiso foto- gráfico (IDEP as part of the Primavera Fotográfica, 1998); Introducción a la historia de la fotografía en Cataluña (MNA, 2000); and 25 años después. Memoria gráfica de una transición (Fundación Telefónica de Madrid, 2000)
On two occasions, the Anuario Fotográfico has selected and published his photographs among the best of the year.
Among the photography books he has published are Las Ramblas (1988); De cara al mar; Ayer y hoy del litoral de Barcelona (2004), Barcelona, plein air (1998), Latidos de un mundo convulso (2007); La transición española and La guerra civil española, (both 2011).
He has taught photojournalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Pompeu Fabra University, among others.
