ARCOlisboa 2025
RocioSantaCruz’s proposal for ARCOlisboa 2025 is based on new ways of seeing and experiencing art through a dialogue established between works by artists Diogo Pimentão (Lisbon, 1973), Teresa Gancedo (León, 1937) and Lionel Sabatté (Toulouse, 1975).
Diogo Pimentão combines volumes, shapes and perceptions in his sculptural creations, based on the use of a common medium: graphite. His techniques challenge the conventions of traditional drawing and explore the expressive capacities of the components.
In a similar direction is the work of Teresa Gancedo. Through an intense and long-lived itinerary, she builds particular and deeply sensitive universes. Paper, pencil, thread, fabrics, ceramics and wood merge with diverse images to give rise to an existential memory in a poetic key.
Lionel Sabatté, on the other hand, stands out as a painter and sculptor, for his innovative use of mineral pigments, powder, oxide and fibers, to make visible images that he has captured by different means. He turns his works into powerful reflections on the human race and its relationship with nature. He explores and expresses the value of transformation, fragility and the origin of life. His creations combine the dreamlike with the disturbing in the form of dissimilar figures.
The work of these artists finds common denominator in the deep exploration with materiality and the recurrence to unusual elements or the reinterpretation of them in the construction of the works. Their creations are not only visually striking, they also address philosophical and social issues, inviting the viewer to a deep contemplative experience.
With their approaches they participate in some way in a global debate, provoking reflections on our condition and the place we occupy in our environment.
