The identity of the famous militia woman photographed by Campañà has been discovered.

During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) Antoni Campañà took one of the most iconic photographs of the conflict: a militia woman, until recently anonymous, holding the CNT flag on one of the barricades built in Barcelona. Ninety years after the photograph was taken, her identity is discovered: Anita Garbín, a militiaman exiled in 1939 who never knew that her image would become one of the most recognisable images of the conflict. The photograph is part of the exhibition “Icônes Cachées. Les images méconnues de la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939)”, held at the Pavillon Populaire in Montpellier.

“La Miliciana infinita” is a documentary that will soon be broadcast on TV3, in which the entire historical study that led to the recognition of the identity of the woman portrayed by Campañà is recorded.

Javier Díaz-Guardiola selects photographs by Colita and Pilar Aymerich to celebrate Pride Month at RedCollectors

The RedCollectors platform, dedicated to the sale and dissemination of contemporary art, has selected works by Pilar Aymerich and Colita to celebrate Pride month. For this selection they invited Javier Díaz-Guardiola, who has added Kathy, Transexual en su habitación de la Cúpula Venus en Las Ramblas, Barcelona (1972) and Ocaña y Camilo (1977) to his repertoire of LGTBIQA+ art.

The gallery would like to thank Javier Díaz-Guardiola for selecting the photographs of Pilar Aymerich and Colita. Both portrayed the outsiders of the seventies, who fought against their own dissidence every day. Thanks to those who ran yesterday, we can run today. We would also like to thank RedCollectors for organising such an important and necessary event that makes visible the multifaceted reality of contemporary art.
