GUILLEM COMA: ON THE MATTER OF THE BODY 

With a particular interest in the territory that runs on the margins of the art system, RocioSantaCruz joins the intention of giving space and value to the production of young artists.

Under this premise, and within the framework of the ART NOU 2024 exhibition program, Guillem Coma’s exhibition proposal is presented. The initiative arises from the collaboration of the gallery with the Singular Art project of the Josep Santacreu Foundation, whose purpose is to give visibility and provide a space for art created by people with functional diversity, with intellectual development disorder or at risk of exclusion.

Guillem Coma’s exhibition brings together a wide selection of works by the artist.  Works that emerge from gesture and spontaneity, and that intensely and recurrently deal with the matter that constitutes the body.

Using the pen as his main tool, Guillem Coma builds an enveloping atmosphere with a varied range of styles and volumes, in which the morphology of the body is seen as an inescapable reality, as well as the space it occupies on the surface of the earth, paraphrasing the literary critic Xavier Pla.

The reiterated presence of the human figure in a register of gestural abstraction, blurred, barely insinuated, is the common thread that connects all the works exhibited. Lines that blend together creating apparent forms and textures, which build figures and generate a sense of movement and fluidity that adds a layer of ecstasy and depth to the works.

It is the act of “scratching”, a constant in the artist’s work, and the medium through which he explores and communicates his ideas. Each line contributes to the construction of a whole, creating a rich and multifaceted visual narrative. The works invite us to contemplate beauty and harmony in repetition. The abstract approach, in which the drawn bodies are suggested, challenges the viewer to look beyond the obvious and to read the works in a personal way.

The objective of this proposal is that the protagonist artist obtains recognition of his work and visibility in the art circuit.
