Today, 16 October 2026, Fundación Juan March in Madrid opens La transición estética. España, 1960-2020 , a group exhibition featuring Lluís Hortalà and Pilar Aymerich, artists represented by Galería RocioSantaCruz.
The exhibition revisits six decades of artistic and cultural transformations in Spain, focusing on the reception of international modern and contemporary art and the different ways in which audiences have encountered, interpreted and experienced works of art.
Through a selection of artworks, photographs, documents, publications and audiovisual materials, the exhibition traces the evolution of Spanish visual culture since the 1960s, against a backdrop of cultural isolation during the dictatorship, the transition to democracy and the gradual opening up to the international art scene.
The participation of Lluís Hortalà and Pilar Aymerich brings two distinct artistic perspectives to this exploration: Hortalà’s investigation into representation, architecture and visual perception, and Aymerich’s documentary photography, closely linked to historical memory, feminism and social movements.
Curated by José María Parreño, Manuel Fontán del Junco, Germán Labrador Méndez and Aida Capa, the exhibition will be on view at Fundación Juan March in Madrid until 10 January 2027.
