We share this great article published in La Vanguardia about the new edition of the book Antifémina by Colita, represented by our gallery, and Mª Aurèlia Campany.

Antifémina was the first openly feminist graphic book in the history of post-Francoism, with texts by Maria Aurèlia Capmany and photographs by Colita, and it was a book that was practically impossible to find. Published in 1977, it was kidnapped by the Francoist structures, still dominant in the middle of the democratic transition.

The Barcelona City Council and  Editorial Terranova, with the collaboration of the Colita Photography Archive, recover the publication of Antifémina, 43 years after its original publication.

We are pleased to share that Monjas tendiendo ropa, 1964 by Colita and Flamenco, 1988 by Ouka Leele have been selected by JP Morgan to be part of their Paris Photo 2021 Curators’ Highlights.

On occasion of the 10th anniversary of  the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection in  Paris Photo, their curatorial team has selected 20 works that reflect unique perspectives within photography.
Through this curation they offer a self-guided tour through the fair that presents a combination of emerging and more established artists to offer a new perspective on the photographic practices of the moment.

Gonzalo Elvira, artist represented by RocioSantaCruz, participates in the exhibition Memoria del Porvenir in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y Léon (MUSAC). The exhibition will be open to the public until the 1st of May 2022.

Lo imborrable, taking its title from the book by Juan José Saer, is a series of 10 ink drawings on paper which reproduce the covers of books that were banned in Argentina during the dictatorship from 1976 to 1983. Through this series, Elvira highlights the violence of the dictatorship and its psychological repercussions for generations of Argentinians. The act of drawing with ink is a significant one; in a poetic gesture, the artist seems to want to record in his memory the content and the titles of the books that constituted freedoms stolen by the authoritarian regime.

En esta edición tan especial de ParisPhoto 2021, RocioSantaCruz despliega una propuesta curatorial diversa, tanto en el estilo y temas como desde una perspectiva generacional con tres conceptos clave: feminismo, humanismo y documento histórico.

Coincidiendo con la exposición Fotoclubismo: Fotografía modernista brasileña, 1946-1964 que inauguró el MoMA de Nueva York el pasado 8 de mayo y donde se presentó una retrospectiva de este movimiento artistico, RocioSantaCruz presenta, en ParisPhoto, una selección de obras de artistas que formaron parte de la muestra, tales como German Lorca (São Paulo, 1922) y Rubens Teixeira Scavone (1925 – 2007) o Palmira Puig (Lleida, 1912-Barcelona, ​​1979), con su visión particularmente humanista, y Marcel Giró (Badalona, ​​1912 – Barcelona, ​​2011), con sus retratos de la sociedad afrobrasileña de los años 50 en Sao Paulo.

Inscrita en esta perspectiva también humanista, Gloria Oyarzabal (Londres, 1971) presenta su serie WOMAN GO NO’GREE, cuya publicación, a cargo de la editorial RM, fue premiada en 2020 con el prestigioso premio Paris Photo-Aperture al mejor fotolibro. En esta serie, Oyarzabal se ocupa de cuestiones como la identidad, el género y los cánones de belleza; un documento arqueológico y antropológico del poder de la mujer en África subsahariana. Este año, Gloria Oyarzabal es una de las artistas femeninas seleccionadas por el Ministerio de Cultura y Paris Photo para formar parte de la sección Elles X ParisPhoto 2021, organizado por Nathalie Herschdorfer, directora del Musée de Locle en Suiza.

En exclusiva internacional para ParisPhoto 2021, presentamos una selección de obras de Colita (Barcelona, ​​1940), fotógrafa histórica y retratista de la vida y cultura españolas. Varias de las fotografías forman parte de Antifemina, el primer fotolibro feminista publicado por Colita en 1977 donde retrata la situación de las mujeres en la posguerra y que fue parte de la exposición Fotos y libros. España 1905-1977 presentada en el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid) en 2015.

Ouka Leele (Madrid, 1957) fue una de las fotógrafas seleccionadas para formar parte de Elles X ParisPhoto 2020 que organizó Karolina Lewandowska, comisaria del Centre Pompidou. En ParisPhoto 2021 podremos ver la colección completa de 21 polaroids de gran formato, 70 x 55 cm, que Ouka Leele realizó por encargo de la Fondation Cartier en 1988. Además, presentaremos algunas de sus obras más icónicas, como Peluquería o El Beso.

Finalmente, cerrando nuestra propuesta, presentaremos una selección de fotografías inéditas, gelatinas de plata y bromóleos, de Antoni Campañà (Arbúcies, 1906-Sant Cugat del Vallès, 1989) que cubren los años 30 y 40. El MNAC (Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña) exhibió recientemente su famosa serie de fotografías de la Guerra Civil Española, que se ha publicado en Francia recientemente por las edicions Seuil, bajo el título de La boîte rouge.

Elles X ParisPhoto 2021

Nos complace anunciar que una obra de la artista Gloria Oyarzabal ha sido seleccionada para formar parte de Elle X ParisPhoto 2021.

Paris Photo continúa su compromiso con las mujeres en la fotografía con Elles X ParisPhoto, un programa iniciado en 2018 en asociación con el Ministerio de Cultura francés para promover la visibilidad de las mujeres artistas y su contribución a la historia de la fotografía. Para esta edición, Nathalie Herschdorfer, directora del musée de Locle en Suiza, nos lleva en un viaje por la feria y las Online Viewing Rooms navegando por 170 años de fotografía y varios continentes incitando nuestro imaginario colectivo y ofreciéndonos una renovada visión de la historia.

Este programa cuenta con el apoyo de Women In Motion, un programa de Kering que arroja luz sobre el talento de las mujeres en los campos de las artes y la cultura.

Paris Photo continues its commitment to women in photography with Elles X ParisPhoto, a program started in 2018 in partnership with the French Ministry of Culture to promote the visibility of women artists and their contribution to the history of photography. For this edition, Nathalie Herschdorfer, director of the Musée de Locle in Switzerland, takes us on a journey through the fair and the Online Viewing Rooms, navigating 170 years of photography and various continents, inciting our collective imagination and offering us a renewed vision of history.

This program is supported by Women In Motion, a Kering program that sheds light on the talents of women in the fields of arts and culture.
